More Than Child Play It’s A Matter Of Survival

One of the most important things you can do for your child is to make sure they learn to swim. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign downing is the second leading cause of unintentional injury relating to deaths in children age 1-14. There are lots of reasons why kids should lean how to swim while they are young. But at the top of the list, parent should remember it can be a matter of survival.

While water recreation provides children and their loved ones with hours of fun and exercise, water and kids can be a dangerous mix. In the United States, drowning remains the second leading cause of accidental death among children ages 1to 14, despite a 52 percent decline in child drowning per year from 1990 to 2005. In 2005, 982 children ages 14 and under died as a result of accidental drowning; in 2004, an estimated 3,702 children in this age group were treated in emergency rooms for near-drowning. Of these drowning deaths, an estimated 40 percent occurred in pools. During off season, many parents forget the dangers that surround their children with so many pools in our neighborhoods. Unfortunately there is no off season when it comes to drowning.

There’s an ocean of reasons why kids should learn how to swim while they’re young. The most obvious one is safety precautions. If your child knows how to swim to safety, you and everyone else can have a bit more peace of mind near the water.

Swimming is by far one of the best forms of exercise for the human body, so teaching your children how to swim gives them hours of fun and give them a great workout as well.

If you child does not know how to swim, sign them up now.  A good instructor is well trained to have patience and experience teaching children to swim one stroke at a time.. For some children its quick while others may take a while to get their arms and legs to do what they’re supposed to, while blowing bubbles and trying to see where they are headed. If your child views swimming as a chore, they will not want to get their feet wet again, let alone go under water. That’s the advantage of having a trained professional swimming instructor, one that knows how to make it fun, safe and exciting for your child.

It goes without saying that you need to supervise your child at all times by any pool or body of water, but both of you will be more at ease knowing your child can swim to the side and get out if they jump, or happen to fall, in. So whether your child just wants to splashes around with you or becomes a synchronized swimmer, there are lots of reasons to teach your children how to swim but nothing as important as their survival.  W
