Sam: What’s up everybody? This is your boy, Sam. We got Stephanie and Francis in the house. We are going to lose 20 pounds in six weeks. And this girl, can you believe me? She emailed saying, “Is 4:30 too early for you?” You must not know me girl.

Stephanie: I did not.

Sam: What’s date? The 10th?

Armando: The 10th.

Sam: December 10th, we’re going to weigh in. Stephanie, step on up and we’ll see what you got here. Is it Stephanie or what? First, Stephanie first, 211.9. So we need to get down to 180 …

Stephanie: 180.9?

Sam: No, no, 191.9.

Stephanie: OK.

Sam: What’s up, Steph?

Steph: What’s up?

Sam: Today is less than – actually, less than six weeks.

Steph: Five weeks.

Sam: It’s five weeks from the time you weighed in. So today is what? The 11th?

Steph: Yeah.

Sam: Yeah, January 11th. So about five weeks ago, we weighed you in at 211.9 and now is five weeks. And you have six weeks to lose 20 pounds but now it’s five weeks. All right?

Steph: Yup.

Sam: So, let’s check you out. Let’s check you out. That’s my challenge to you because you can get your training for free. 191.5 so 20.3 pounds in five weeks.

Steph: Yes.

Sam: Now, let me ask you a question. Did you actually believe that you could have done that?

Steph: No.

Sam: When you first started?

Steph: No.

Sam: You couldn’t, right? OK. Now, was it easy or was it hard?

Steph: It was hard.

Sam: OK. Was it worth it?

Steph: Yes.

Sam: That’s what I’m talking about. So, you have to get out of your comfort zone. I know you worked your ass off. You worked your ass off and I’ve seen you coming here more right now it’s like 5:00 o’clock in the morning. You ought to be here an hour.

Steph: Yup.

Sam: So to people who think that they can’t do it, what do you have to say?

Steph: You can do it. You can do it. You can do it. You can do it.

Sam: And you just got out of your comfort zone and you just came in and you just followed the game plan and …

Steph: Stop making excuses.

Sam: Awesome. That’s what I – awesome. See you soon.

What Motivates Me to Work Hard

As you  all  know by now I am the master motivator. I do what I need to do to get in my client’s minds to get them RESULTS. Everyone is a different when it comes to what motivates them. Some clients respond to one method of motivation while others respond to something totally different.

We all from time to time get “burned out” from exercise, work, etc……….

Don’t get me wrong I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what I do BUT even I once in a while get a little “burned out” or need a little encouragement.

Below is just a few of many emails that I got in the last 8 months that I keep in case I need to PUMP MYSELF UP.

I started Fitness Concepts April 2010 (@131lbs.) with reservations but determination. Reservations being I’m older than I’d like to think about (55), I have a body that did exercise but was changing-like going south, and that I have always had the same diet, weighed the same(122 lbs) and suddenly was gaining a pound a month. My first conversation with you was eye opening but almost unbelieveable. You said I needed to eat more often and exercise differently. Within 4 weeks of joining I could tell a positive difference. “Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I wanted to write and tell you how I have been doing with the Boot Camp since I signed up.

I signed up for the 14 day fat flush, and this was my first time getting into your gym. The most appealing thing about the fat flush was that you promised results, and you provided an easy diet program. I did really well during these 2 weeks, I lost 5 pounds. 5 pounds does not seem like very much, but considering my weight has only increased over the last 3 years, this was a big deal for me. I have always been pretty active, not always at the gym, but I play hockey and that keeps me busy. My main issue was my diet. I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted! My diet was absolutely terrible!

So this program taught me how important it is to eat healthy, AND to exercise. Now, for the Boot Camp…I absolutely LOVE the Boot Camp. The workouts the girls have us do really force me to push myself. The problem I had with working out by myself at the gym was giving up. Anytime I was tired, I would stop. In the Boot Camp, you push yourself to complete the reps so you don’t let down the group. The workouts are always different, and always challenging! I love when the workouts are complete, I feel so good knowing I was able to complete it.

I wasn’t able to work out at all in October, I separated my ribs playing hockey, so I was sidelined the whole month. The great thing is that I did not gain any of the weight back! I did my best to eat healthy even though I couldn’t exercise. I’m healthy again and ready to lose more weight! I need to push myself a bit harder at the boot camp. My short term goal is losing 10 pounds. Long term, I want to lose around 30 pounds. The fat flush gave me a nice jump start!

…the many classes I have to choose from (even tho I don’t go to anything but the 5am I keep thinking I can just drop in at any one of them)

…the classes are different every day and every week
…they have a plan on which body parts we will be working on so you know what to expect and you know that you aren’t doing ..for example arms AGAIN (:

“As an over 50 yr old I KNOW I have to keep my muscles working or they will atrophy. It’s just a fact that if you don’t use it you lose it and that getting it back is not so much fun. Once upon a time I had the motivation to go out for a 10 mile run and it was fun. Now I really like to have Alejandra tell me what to do and I don’t have to think about.. what route I’m going to take or should I do interval training. I like to do the different exercises and come home and see if my college age kids can do them. (: My body hasn’t changed shape in the last month but that’s mostly because I like to eat and I have chosen to partake in those nasty things like bread and cheese and the occasional cookie or ice cream. I know that. But I CAN feel my abs taking shape under fluff layer. I am looking forward to the Nutrition seminar on Monday evening to find out how I can tweak my eating and maybe get rid of one layer of fluff. (:
What The Camp IS doing for me is making it so that I have endurance for those long shopping trips or treks through airports and even the occasional hike, bike ride, or run. It’s part of what’s allowing me to be at my age and not be on any kind of prescription medication. It’s allowing me to work off some stress so I have a happier attitude.

“It has been about a month since I started and I am extremely satisfied with Fitness Concepts. I just had my measurements done yesterday and I am definitely showing results (and I was even on vacation for a week!). I’m looking forward to improving more and more through the months. My trainer, Sue, is great. I’ve really enjoyed working out with her. She really pushes me but is also very encouraging.

The facility is also great. Everyone is so nice and I feel very comfortable working out there.

I’m still working on improving my nutrition. Before I started at Fitness Concepts, I have to say that my diet was not very good at all. I have definitely improved it using your tips but I still have a ways to go. My biggest downfall is sugar! Thank you for taking interest in my comments.

After 3 weeks with the program, I am truly happy with the overall experience. How can I not be, when I am seeing results! The fit of my clothes don’t lie. I think this alone is a clear indication that I am seeing results and what is currently transpiring is working. Just this week I was able to button up some jeans that I thought I could not imagine getting in for awhile. But more exciting Is that this is just the beginning to my transformation.

As for my trainer, we started with a small hiccup, but that aside Maria is currently meeting my needs. Maria is very creative and is always changing it up making it a good workout! She is always testing our endurance, and pushes us to the limit.

As for the facility, the only negative here would be the bathrooms, the bathrooms are not always clean. The floors are usually wet, making it a hazard and wet towels on the floor. As for myself I do not use the shower facilities, however this could pose a problem for those who do.

The music could be slightly a little louder. Okay maybe frivolous. Pump it up!

In sum, I am truly satisfied. My energy levels are up, I am committed to my well being and my outlook regardless of what is happening around me it’s all good!! Hugo is noticing the results and is very supportive and is my #1 fan!!

“Before I called Fitness Concepts I was in a weight loss challenge and had been dieting and exercising for 11 weeks. I had lost a total of 54 pounds up to that time. I was on a very strict low carbohydrate diet and I was doing a lot of cardio exercise but I had reached a plateau; I was starting to get very little results for my time exercising. In the previous two weeks I had exercised, elliptical machine, versa-climber stair machine, swimming, and cycling (I couldn’t run because of plantar facia) for a total of 30 hours and wasn’t losing enough weight to reach my goal. I knew I was not going to be able to maintain or increase the time exercising.
Dr Bakhtir immediately changed my diet so that I actually ate a lot more. I spent less time exercising but did various exercises that worked out every muscle group. I ended up losing another 14 pounds in the next 2 1/2 weeks.
Maybe best of all, my cholesterol went from the 220’s to 160!”

Last Wednesday was my last session so I wanted to make sure to say thank you for everything. Sarah has worked with me for a year and I’m happy with how far I’ve come since that first session with her. I joined because of the weight I gained over 4years from the pregnancies of my 3 boys. I had been carrying a lot of excess weight over 4yrs. And when walking up the stairs at home left me winded – it really hit me that I needed help. “Dear Sam and trainer Rudy. On 7/9/2010, at the age of 56 and after training with Rudy for 5 months, I walked 10 miles to three thousand feet of the Grand Canyon West Rim to Supai and on to the Havasupai Falls I was carrying a 24 pound backpack for a 2 night stay in a tent. Two days later I walked out of the canyon, in four hours I walked 8.5 miles and the last 1.5 miles, a thousand feet steep climb I accomplished in one hour. I passed people in their 20’s, 30’s and was passed by young people on horseback. I was able to accomplish this without pain and with speed (2 miles/hour) because of the strength training I experienced with my trainer at Fitness Concepts. When I came across Fitness Concepts I was actually looking for a weight loss clinic. I though if I could just get a doctor to prescribe me some pills, the fat will melt right off of me. Well, I did find a weight loss clinic and when I went there to get my “pills and diet” the doctor and all the nurses were overweight. This didn’t make any sense to me. Why am I going to take advice from an overweight doctor who employs overweight staff at a WEIGHT LOSS CLINIC……….at this point I was desperate. I needed to do something. I had a baby 2.5 years ago and I don’t have a single family photo of us, because I am embarrassed and ashamed of the way I look. I haven’t worn shorts since my honeymoon, which was 7 years ago! I hate summer time, I don’t want to take my kids to the pool because I am too ashamed to put on a swimsuit and feel like everyone is looking at me. I feel like I’ve had an excuse for not doing something or not following through with something for the past 7 years and I am done with excuses. I want to be a role model for my children and I want to inspire people to get in the best shape of their life, but before I can do that, I have to start with myself. I think that by losing this weight and getting even closer to my goal, its going to make me a better person, a better employee, a better mother, a better friend, a better daughter, a better sister and most importantly a better wife and lover to my husband. May God Bless him, he has always loved me and never complained about my weight, but I just don’t feel comfortable in my own skin…..until now! Because for the first time in years, I am finally seeing results and they are amazing. Just check out my stats. I joined Fitness Concepts one month ago and I have already lost 8.5 lbs., 4.6% of body fat, I’ve lost 11.5 lbs. of body fat and I have gained 3 lb.s of lean muscle body mass! Did I mention that in just under four weeks of training at Fitness Concepts that I also lost 8.75 inches! 3.5 was from my waist alone! I am so excited about my results and I can’t wait to see what next month has in store for me!

“Just wanted to say thanks for sending me your blogs and emails. They are truly inspirational and informative. I also wanted to give you an update on my physical condition since I concluded my Fitness Concepts program.

I came to you in August, 2008. I weighed 250 pounds, had high blood pressure and my eating habits were terrible. Although I worked out, I was eating once or twice a day, thinking that I could lose weight that way. Little did I know that the nutritional value of the food that I ate was contributing to my weight gain. You altered my diet and my trainers pushed me to achieve. By January, 2009 I had lost 50 pounds. At my annual physical, my doctor was amazed. My BP, cholesterol and other indicators were well below prior levels. By March I had lost another 17 pounds and weighed in at 182. I had gone from a size 40 waist to a 34. My coat size went from a size 50 to a 42.

I have continued to subscribe to your principles. My last physical was great and I continue to work out 5-6 days a week. Although I have gained about 10 pounds (probably lean mass) my waist size has remained at 34.
