All women want to maintain a beautifully formed feminine physique.  That’s just a statement of fact.  However, most women mistakenly shy away from anything that claims to “build muscle” for fear of looking too muscular.

Have no fear! A typical woman’s body is not built to look like the “Incredible Hulk” and without a lot of “outside assistance”, you won’t achieve that look even if that’s your end goal.

Building lean muscle mass is the key to maintaining a feminine physique and looking better than ever.  That’s right, it’s MORE IMPORTANT than doing ‘cardio’!  Below are five “muscle facts” every woman should know about.

 

 

Muscle Increases Metabolism
Muscle is metabolically active tissue and is what helps to burn calories and keep off those extra pounds. If you have more muscle, you will burn more calories, even as you sleep. The only way to elevate your resting metabolic rate is to build muscle mass by participating in any sort of resistance training, including body weight exercises.

More Muscle = Lean, Sexy Body

You simply cannot attain your “Ideal Body” by doing only ‘cardio’. Cardiovascular training is important and promotes cardiovascular health, which is mainly beneficial for the inside of your body, but resistance training is not only great for the body’s outward appearance, but also helps to promote lean muscle mass which will put curves in all the right places. The ideal program will include both elements.

Building muscle allows you to ‘keep up with the kids’ and enjoy life, not just watch life pass you by.  Take those long hikes in the woods or along the beach!  Engage in good old-fashioned, physical “play”. Don’t be only a spectator.  Watching from the sidelines is OK, but being active is the most fun.

As we age, we naturally become more sedentary.  This causes a decrease in muscle tissue, which begins a downward spiral.  As muscle mass declines, body fat climbs.  Your metabolism slows, so you get fatter even if you’re eating the same calories as before.  But this trend doesn’t have to happen.
Maintaining muscle mass requires calories and is essential in lowering and keeping body fat levels down. By simply adding muscle you burn more calories, increase your metabolic rate, and keep your body more firm and youthful appearing.  Get active, get training, build some muscle, and stay young, fit, and lean!
