Watch this video of me and my awesome client/friend Suzi and learn one method I use to get my clients fired up to reach their goal. Remember it’s all in the mindset. As a matter of fact 1/3 of my soon to be released book “Body Transformation Secrets” is dedicated to mindset. We all know we have to exercise and eat better but why only 5% of people succeed while 95% fail. Yep you guessed it “mindset”. This is a powerful way to make sure you reach your goals. TRUST ME.

I also use the same exact method to motivate myself as well (I practice what I preach) as a  matter of fact I didn’t reach a goal that I set for myself last month so I am running a 5K this Saturday. OK I am giving it away…….WATCH THE VIDEO

Great blog Sam. I finally got some good goals in mind, but I might have to work on the punishment part. Cause the goal I have in mind as well as the prize is so awesome.

I am a beginning trainer and I am struggling with how to manage the following client
1. best friend that I have been training twice a week free for nine months
2. at beginning said she wanted to “lose weight, tone, reshap, improve balance, increase energy, enjoyment”
3. she refused to tell me any of her stats: weight, bp etc etc
4. I guess she is 5’2″ and about 180 lbs. She is still that weight or more and can’t even lift a 5 lb dumbell (still at 3 lbs)
I know I set myself up but now what should I do. I just had a conversation with her trying to tell her she has reached none of her milestones or goals she started crying, yelling at me, then walked out.
Question: where do I go from here

Dear Magnolia,

1) Being a personal trainer means that you have to wear many “hats” at times. For one I don’t train good friends, family, and significant other.
I think the relationship just gets in the way of business. I remember when I first met my wife she asked me to train her and I refused. Instead
I hired another personal trainer for her. Guess what we are now married. You don’t want to loose your best friend over business.

2) If you decided that you still want to train this person then you should sit down and “define” expectations. This means she understands what
you want out of her in this program and what she expects from you as well. You should let her know that you don’t train people unless you have
done an assessment which includes her weight, body composition, etc……..

3) If you know this person really well then you should know how to motivate her. Some people get motivated by positive reinforcement and some
by negative reinforcement. It seems like she doesn’t respond well with negative reinforcement.

4) As trainers we always want the best for our clients ans sometimes get a little overzealous. Always remember to progress them at their own pace.
I would call your friend and tell her “Hi friend I am sorry if I offended you in any way you see I simply want the best for you and really want you to succeed.
If I didn’t care I wouldn’t say anything. Friend let’s work together have fun and achieve some results.”
