Hi Sam:

Thanks for the video. I’m sorry that you think I’m just making excuses. I really want to lose weight and build muscle. I am not just a mindless person who just says things randomly to get away with something. The things I ask you about are things I have read or seen on TV. The explanations in these media have made sense, just like what you say makes sense. I am trying to sort through all the information I hear and find what works best for me. I don’t want you to feel that my questions mean I don’t believe what you are telling me. I am just trying to process all the info I have learned. I know you are very knowledgeable about physical fitness and nutrition and because of that I see you as a valuable resource for learning.

You say that age doesn’t affect metabolism, but everything I’ve always heard says it does. Also, women go through many chemical changes througout their lives. These changes do affect many things including metabolism, fat storage, mental health and physical aspects such as bone density, hair loss, and skin elasticity. Their risk for many diseases including cancer increases as the body ages. It’s too simple to say the only reason someone may not be losing weight is because they are not trying hard enough. You know men and women have very different chemicals in their bodies. How a man loses weight and gains muscle is not the same as how a woman loses weight and gains muscle. .We all know women have more estrogen and men have more testosterone. To compensate for the loss of estrogen in a women’s body as she gets closer to menopause, her body begins storing fat around her middle. I’m no expert, but I do know alot about being a woman.

I know I need to excercise more and appreciate the motivation, but I really have tried to eat the way you taught me at the nutrition seminar and push myself very hard when I’m working out. I will continue to work hard adding the two extra days to my routine and be open to any suggestions you have. I know you have all your clients best interest in mind and I’m sure it must be very frustrating when you feel they are not working to their full potential. Thanks for taking the time with me today. Hey Judy,

First of all it was a pleasure meeting with you today. I am never too busy to help my clients or anyone in that matter. There are a few things that I definitely want to clarify and here there are:

1) Don’t believe everything you read or hear on T.V. The business of weight loss is a 4 billion dollar industry so always make sure “who is saying what and why”. For example a few years ago a
study was published that claimed dark chocolate helped with fat loss. Upon closer examination the study was funded by a chocolate manufacturing company. Of course they make in “sensible”
just like the infomercials that claim to workout 3 minutes 3x/week.

2) Don’t mix up different methods. Hire one coach and listen to him only. There are many different ways to lose fat and gain muscle tone BUT mixing different ideas from many different people is like having
two chefs making the soup.

3) Women and men are definitely different BUT the we both lose weight and gain muscle the same exact way. It’s just a matter of calories in vs calories out. I have women in the gym in their fifties that
will put any twenty five year old to shame when it comes to their body fat. We also have in the gym women that are post menopause that have a six pack that will make any 25 year old male jealous.

4) You are losing on the average one pound per week which is EXCELLENT since you are only working out 3 days/week and eating about 70-75% correct.

5) The point that I was trying to make at our meeting is that before you blame chemicals, age, estrogen, etc………. first let’s make sure that we are exercising 5x/week and eating closer to 90% correctly.
(No one eat perfectly). If you go to any physician they would tell you the same thing. When you do all the above and still are not getting results(remember you are because you are averaging one pound per week) then it’s time for a blood test. In this blood test I recommend getting a CBC (complete blood count) and a hormonal panel.

6) As we age out metabolism slows down mostly because of inactivity and muscle loss which can be prevented by exercising anaerobically(weights) and aerobically(cardio).

Judy, I am here to help you are doing just fine as you have lost 17 pounds of fat and gained 8 pounds of muscle tone in 8 weeks.
