A Healthy Alternative To Your Starbucks Addiction
So I’m at Starbucks in Henderson. Getting ready to pull an all-nighter. It’s like 9pm and I got a long night ahead.
Anyway, you’re probably wondering why I’m a 36-year-old business owner and pulling an all-nighter.
Good question. Basically, I am here in Vegas for yet another mastermind meeting with some of the top trainers and nutritionists in the world.
And of course, there was about ZERO chance that I’d actually get it done at the home (Bailee is up til midnight sometimes), so I came here.
But, here’s the cool thing: I’m working on something REALLY awesome and TOP SECRET and I’m even going to let you know what it is in a few weeks. Oooo, the anticipation.
But HEY, instead of actually doing my work, why don’t I take some time to blog about Starbucks and coffee?
You think it’s a good idea, too? Awesome. YOU’RE awesome.
So, if you’re like me, you like a good cup of coffee every so often. Or perhaps you just like coffee-flavored things (also like me), such as a White Chocolate Frappuccino (630 calories, 119 grams of sugar – but hey, it DOES have 0 grams of fat).
Fortunately, the whole point of this blog post is for me to provide you with an equally satisfying, tasty coffee-flavored icy treat, which I promise to do in just a moment.
But first, allow me to give you some advice:
Starbucks is good for:
* A change of environment for getting work done at midnight if you’re a true procrastinator like me
(I also use random hotel lobbies, in which I’m not even a guest, for this purpose. Works great and makes me feel very resourceful, which I am.)
* Regular coffee (which I just ordered)
And that’s about it.
Now, don’t get me wrong.
The other stuff does TASTE good (some of it really good), but it comes at the expense of lotsa calories and insulin spiking sugars.
Fortunately, I have a pretty sweet (read cool – not sugary) solution for you.
One other quick thing…don’t be fooled by the “Light” options either, like the Java Chip Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee – that mofo still packs up to 300 cals and 55 grams of carbs depending on the size.
So, today, I’m here to satisfy your coffee-flavored dessert-esque beverage cravings with a much healthier alternative.
The Vanilla Cinnamon Mocha Almond Protein Smoothie (awesome name, I know)
AND, it’s only 150 calories, with 100 of those bad boys coming from lean muscle building protein.
Here you go:
* 1 Scoop of Prograde Protein (the low-carb vanilla protein sweetened with Stevia)

* 1 heaping tsp of instant coffee

* 6 oz of Almond Milk (unsweetened)
Blend (in a blender) and enjoy.
You’ll never miss a Frappuccino again.

As a fairly new parents, we learn something every day … here are 7 “lessons” we learned this week that can apply to everyone.
1. While finding your own shadow IS really interesting (and super cute to see) for an 8 month old. She quickly realized you can’t touch it, hit it, or really ever catch it… the moral of the story? Don’t try to chase it – look towards what you want to achieve, but don’t look back.
2. Millet, while a very healthy whole grain, is kind of bland tasting. I’ve only ever known it for my pet Shiba when I was little. But now I got to try some because we introduced it to Bailee. I had never tasted it … Bailee was not a fan. Although it’s kind of bland, I’d try it again whole — Johnette ground it up and then cooked it. The moral of that story — try new foods, expand your horizons, and learn what else is out there.
3. Get enough sleep – while Bailee takes 3 naps during the day and that might be a bit much, a little “cat nap” for a boost in energy during the day (or at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night) is a great idea. Just look how happy Bailee is immediately when she woke up from her nap today! Imagine your boost in productivity if you rested for a bit versus having your minding wander because of fatigue and/or boredom.
4. Each meal should be full of colors – Bailee’s current favorite is “mommy mashed” organic sweet potatoes (orange), peas (green), and apple (white) all mixed. More colors than most people eat every day!
5. Single leg training is tough – most of the times Bailee falls down when she’s holding on to something with 1 hand, reaching down, and balancing on one foot – as adults, we don’t do much single leg (or upper body) training either. Add it in to your routine since most of us have imbalances.
6. Move as much as you can – sure, Bailee is 8 months old, but when you put her in one place, she crawls across the room as fast as she can. But then one day we grow up and sit most of the 24 hours in a day. Move more. Every single day.
7. Finishing a meal with something sweet is a great idea – but like many European countries (and Bailee) that something sweet should be fruit. Bailee prefers mashed bananas. As grown ups, I suggest whole fruit (unless you actually want to mash it).

Here is one of my favorite quotes:
“Never tell a young person that something cannot be done.
God may have been waiting for centuries for someone ignorant enough of the impossible to do that thing.”

You got to check this video out. Both my wife and I couldn’t believe what our 4 month old baby girl was able to do.

WARNING !!! Never attempt this at home with your child.
Loren is a liscensed physical therapist and works with national gymnastic champions.
From the young age of 4 yrs. old, Loren’s daughter Holly, has been able to hold a handstand.

What amazing things can happen with positive reinforcement.
Today Holly has accomplished the National Champion status in Acrobatic Gymnastics and is currently working with Cirque du soleil.

You see as children we don’t have fears and we are only limited by our imagination.

But something happens to us as we grow up and we start doubting ourselves.

Could it be the constant “you can’t do this”, “you are not good at that”,
” You will never become that.”, from the adults?
As a first time father I would love your opinion on this subject.
Please leave me a comment.

Hey my awesome friends and clients. You all know that I have been blessed with a beautiful baby girl(her name is Bailee Rose). On July 3rd of 2009 my whole life changed when I held my little girl in my arms for the first time.

There is nothing in the world that I wouldn’t do for my baby girl. I remember the first thing that I picked up was “Baby on board” sign for the back of the car.
I know I will be SUPER protective of her when it comes time for her to date. As a matter of fact I am already stressing about it and that’s why I wrote this blog post.
I even dusted off some of my old never seen before bodybuilding pictures for this post.

TO ALL PARENTS I NEED YOUR HELP. CAN YOU PLEASE COMMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BLOG POST ABOUT HOW YOU PROTECT YOUR KIDS. I WOULD TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT.
Rule One:
If you pull into my driveway and honk you’d better be delivering a package, because you’re sure not picking anything up.

Rule Two:
You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter’s body, I will remove them.

Rule Three:
I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips.
Please don’t take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots.

Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object.
However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact, come off during the course of your date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.
Rule Four:
I’m sure you’ve been told that in today’s world, sex without utilizing a “barrier method” of some kind can kill you.
Let me elaborate, when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.

Rule Five:
It is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day.
Please do not do this.

The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is “early.”
Rule Six:
I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls.
This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter.

Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you.
If you make her cry, I will make you cry like a baby.

Rule Seven:
As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget.

If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating.
My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process that can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge.

Instead of just standing there, why don’t you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car?

Rule Eight:
The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter:
Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden stool.

Places where there are no parents, policemen, or nuns within eyesight.

Places where there is darkness.
Places where there is dancing, holding hands, or happiness.
Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka – zipped up to her throat.

Movies with a strong romantic or sexual theme are to be avoided; movies which features chain saws are okay.
Hockey games are okay.
Old folks homes are better.
Rule Nine:
Do not lie to me.
I may appear to be a potbellied, balding, middle-aged, dimwitted has-been.
But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your universe.

If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house.

Do not trifle with me.
Rule Ten:
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

It takes very little for me to mistake the sound of your car in the driveway for a chopper coming in over a rice paddy near Hanoi.

When my Agent Orange starts acting up, the voices in my head frequently tell me to clean the guns as I wait for you to bring my daughter home.
As soon as you pull into the driveway you should exit your car with both hands in plain sight.
Speak the perimeter password, announce in a clear voice that you have brought my daughter home safely and early, then return to your car – there is no need for you to come inside.

The camouflaged face at the window is mine.

We hope you enjoyed this blog and had a good laugh!!!! Lovely Wifey & I are have alot of fun being new parents!!
