Are there any side-affectst to any of the supplements you talked about? For instance, glutamine, creatine, nitrate oxides are the ones I would be interested in. I have a good multi-v and ultimate omega. I also take added 300mg of B6.

Hi Mr. Stevens,

Glutamine & creatine have been around for a while and are generally considered safe with no major side effects. Nitric oxide has been around for a while as a medication for heart patients but has only recently been used as a dietary supplement for healthy individuals. We need more research before we can say much on the safety & effectiveness. High amounts of nitric oxide may lead to headaches or low blood pressure. Hope this helps.

I will have the experts answer your questions. Kristy is our Registered Dietitian and Fred is our supplement guru who owns Pure Performance Nutrition.

I believe the best fat burner is a combination of exercise and a healthy diet. If you are following an exercise and nutrition program and want a little “boost” then my favorite “Fat Burner” is called Rapid Thermal by Pure Performance Nutrition.” But please make sure that you are exercising and eating better as there are no magic pills when it comes to burning body fat.

I would agree with what Kristy had to say. Creatine and Glutamine have been around for several years. There are many studies and expansive research on the effects and side effects of these products. They are considered safe for use by most people, barring any existing health issues that might be affected by using these ingredients.

AAKG (Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate) is relatively new (in the past five years). There is very quantitative research and studies on this ingredient as well. However, since it has only been used by the masses for the past five years, there is no significant long term data on the side effects.

That being said, all of the existing research indicates that this is a safe ingredient with no obvious harmful side effects in the short or long term.

Here is the information that is available and my recommendation:

With any amino acid containing product, overdose is a possibility. Dosing with too much arginine can lead to diarrhea, weakness and nausea. Clear dosing guidelines have not been established, so it is best to do what is known as “tolerance mapping”. Take a small dosage for one week, note the benefits and the side effects, and increase the dosage until the benefits are maximized and the side effects minimized. Over time the two will converge and you will hit the optimal dose. This process is similar to “receptor mapping” for bodybuilders who use insulin.

So in summary, follow the instructions and warnings on the product label and you should be fine.

I am interested in taking a Fat Burner (Alpha Lean) but not sure if I can. I currently take Synthroid for my thyroid and want to know if its safe to combine with Alpha Lean?

Hi Maria,
That is a very good question and I am glad that you asked that.
Alpha Lean is just essential fatty acids so it’s totally safe. You definitely need to consult your physician if you are going to take fat burners that contain herbs. Alpha Lean is definitely safe.

Supplements are a very good complement for fitness provided that we are training under the direction of an expert.

As per my readings supplements on the basis of proteins are very good to boost the metabolism and to burn fat.
