Jay McGuire Chino Hills’s Finest(Explicit Language)

Typically, I do not like putting people on blast BUT I just have to this time! This subject is driving me crazy and I would like everyone’s opinion, so please feel free to comment.

For the people who do not know much about sports, Mark Mcgwire is a famous baseball player; and Jay McGwire, his brother, has tried various sports and never got too far. Jay had a personal training facility located in Chino Hills, which went out of business about a year ago.

(For the record, I never had a problem with Jay even though we were so called “competitors”. Jay and I always had respect for each other. Hell, I even worked out in his gym a few times!)

I started thinking, “I cannot believe what I am reading. God please do not tell me that this is happening. We live in the United States of America, the richest and most advanced country in the world. Not to mention, we live in a country where opportunities exist everywhere. But, I guess if you cannot make it here then you can sell your brother out or file a fraudulent law suite.”

What I am referring to is Jay Mcgwire’s attack on his own flesh and blood, Mark Mcguire. How the in the hell can you sell your own brother out?

This past Thursday on my way to driving to Las Vegas, I got an email from my very good friend and client Jeanette Young. (Jeanette is one of  many successful real estate agents in the Chino Valley)

Anyways, as my wife was sleeping on the passenger side I decided to check my email (I have one of those “Crackberry’s”. I have been trying very hard not to check my emails when I drive BUT these phones are addicting. My wife hates it when I check them and constantly tells me that someday I am going to cause an accident. I am telling you, these phones are like drugs. I am going to admit myself to the “Crackberry” 12 step program.) Instead, I quickly glanced at my email and the subject wrote, “Did you see what Jay did to his brother?”

Feeling guilty, I put the phone down. Despite my relaxing weekend with my beautiful wife, I returned to work on Monday only to find an eye popping daily bulletin sitting on my desk.

I come to find out that Jay McGwire is circulating a manuscript titled “The Mcgwire family: The truth about steroids, a slugger, and ultimate redemption”.

In 2005, under oath, Mark McGwire denied using illegal performance-enhancing drugs. See the below video:

I personally am not here to say whether he did or not, but to me it is as obvious as the O.J. Simpson case. However, why does Jay all of a sudden feel a need to bring it to the table? What is his purpose for selling his story now, rather than four years ago?

According to newspapers, Jay states, “My bringing the truth to the surface about Mark is out of love. I want Mark to live in truth to see the light, to come to repentance so that he can live in freedom, which is the only way to live.”

“Bull S***” is what I say to that. The only reason that Jay is bringing this up now, is because he is currently broke. He is selling out his own flesh and blood to get a book published. Those of us who live in the area know that Jay’s gym went out of business about a year ago and owes money to many of his former clients and employees.

Well this is what I have to say to Jay.

Jay, if you want to live in freedom I suggest paying back your former clients and employees first, before putting your family’s name and your brother under the rug for money. How hypocritical can you possibly be? I know many of your former clients and employees will vouch that you sold them a 6-month membership the same week that you closed your doors. Yet, you go around claiming that you are Christian and say “Jesus this and Jesus that”. You allege that you are doing this for your brother and not for you. Weren’t you a Christian four years ago? Why is it that now you have a conscious? Did you not have one four years ago?

I personally hate it when people use Christianity and God’s name to justify their wrong actions. I am sure that others along with myself would have respect for Jay if he would come out and say, “I am broke and I need to sell out my brother for money.” People might not agree with it but they will at least respect him for being honest.

I say publish the damn book, and donate all the profits and anything related, to charity!

Do you think that Jay would publish it then? I DON’T THINK SO!

I believe that God has an amazing way of dealing with us. For example, look at the O.J. Simpson case. We all knew he committed a crime and somehow managed to beat the law, and published a book entitled “If I did it”. We all know how justice was later served.

The McGuire Brothers Rock!!! I think both of them belong in ” The Hall.” Mark in Major League Baseball’s “Hall of Fame” and brother Jay in the “Hall of Shame.” He can join Jose Canseco, Tommy Lee and Pamela’s maid, and other all time sell outs in That Hall!

Mike McGirr @ 1:59 pm

WHO said OJ is guilty!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fight On SC!!!!!!!!!

Alma Nielsen @ 1:59 pm

WOW, I agree with you. He sold out his brother. He also went out of business because unlike you, he treated his customers crappy. The real customers that needed his help, he would drop them like a bad habit if some good looking gal walked by. He gawked and stare and literally stopped mid sentence and had to compose himself before he could complete his thoughts and finish his sentence. It was pretty obvious his mind was not on his customers.

sherry @ 2:15 pm

Tell us how you really feel Sam! LOL

Judy Gonzales @ 2:50 pm

I’m with you Sam. I think Jay is just trying to make money. I almost lost alot of money with him to. thanks to Franco that did not happen. I might know someone who could get us to the right person to let the people know what Jay did to all his innocent clients.

Chris @ 4:22 pm

Hey Sam – this is wrong and is only for publicity (very sad). Family business belongs within the family – if Jay is doing this for love of Mark, then keep it private and work on it together.

Jeanette Young @ 4:36 pm

I could not believe it. I was at Applebees eating lunch when Fox news made the report on Jay. I thought I was hearing things. How could you do that to your own brother??? I Bet his parents are ashamed. I agree with you Sam..

Shelby @ 7:10 pm

Well Sam I will say this, I think we all need to examine our motives when we make our choices in life. The fact that Jay claims to be a christian should mean that he has God governing his morality and have made better judgement in all areas, however, he is a sinner as are we all and praying for him may convict his heart of his poor behavior. Something to think about;) It is nice that you lead by example in how you conduct your business, it is quite impressive!

HugeJuge @ 9:13 pm

I never liked the man in the first place, so don’t get me started. lol Anyway I knew them pretty well. Mark was a giving man and supported the the hypocrite and now he does this to his own flesh and blood. What a sin!!!! He will get what’s coming to him, in his own way… By the power all mighty, the man works in mysterious ways.

WOW, SAM YOU REALLY MAKE IT PLAIN. I LOVE THAT ABOUT YOU. YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT JAY.

Carole Cavanaugh @ 10:51 am

Jay praying that Jesus would help Mike, IS NOT THE PROBLEM! Jay should take further instruction from Jesus, which says …”pray in your closet……”
Obama says he is a Follower of Jesus and then promotes and passes laws that kill babies a few weeks before being born. AND HE GETS PAID ALOT OF MONEY AS PRESIDENT!

Are you equally upset about that Sam? Hopefully so.

Sam Bakthiar @ 12:10 pm

Wow,
This By far has been the most popular blog topic. I want to thank you guys for commenting. It’s always good to share ideas and thoughts.

It’s nice to talk about something other than health and fitness once in a while.

Laing Stevens @ 12:29 pm

Well Sam, you certainly know more about Jay than I do. I have only spoken to him once. When I had the article placed on your desk, it was in the context of when a professional “falls”…it effects all professionals in that same field. Being a Christian football coach, I really get “ticked” when I hear or read of a coach abusing or disrespecting their players. In fact, I have personaly called and talked to a coach and encouraged him to change his ways or get out of the business of building men out of boys. My response is more in two areas: Marks redemption and how Christianity does not encourage sin…but, in fact, keeps us from sinning as much as we do. I won’t take too much time on the first part, maybe you know about Jay’s motivation or purpose for “selling his brother out” than I do. But to do it in a open, public forum is not right. There is a great example of this in the Bible (Genesis 37-47) when a young man named Joseph was left for dead in a hole in the desert by his brothers because they hated him out of jealousy. A caravan came along and rescued Joseph and took him to another land where he eventually prospered and became the king’s right-hand man. Long story short, Joseph came across his brothers some time later and forgave them and loved them so much that he set them up for life. Wow! That’s forgiveness! But ultimate forgiveness comes from God and God only. One of the greatest mistakes we can make is to try to cover up our sin or sins. Confession of the truth! What a concept! It is natural for men without God to attempt to cover his shame in order to avoid consequences. But God says that any man who justifies himself will be condemned in the end. Confession is the vehicle God has given us of securing the “freedom” and “peace” that Jay was talking about. But, it needs to be said, real confession is not to some mediator…but to God Himself.
I John 1:9 states that “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Sam, we all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. The Good News is that we are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and grattuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is (provided) in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 3:23-24)
The only reason we can come clean and get any kind of peace and atonement is through the Lord Jesus Christ. Because He is rich in grace, bore our sins on Calvary and shed His blood to put away sin. Christians aren’t free from sinning…but genuine repentance and self-judgement comes from true confession.
It seems like a common practice today for all people to make every effort to cover their sins. As for Christians, we are convicted by our sins and know that we must confess.
I know this isn’t the response that you probably wanted but since I see you 3 times a week…we can talk about it some more if you like.

Okay what about Judas? I am not going down the long road of Laing Stevens – I am on with you. I guess I wonder about his kids. Just like Clemens. If I were them I would move to France with Monica Lewinsky.

Ted May @ 6:46 pm

Having worked in Chino Hills since 1984 as a personal trainer, I have seen and heard it all. I worked with Jay for four years and had many conversations with him regarding himself and his brother. I have also had many dealings with Sam and every other trainer in this city. The stories I could tell! However, being as I am not without sin, it is not my call to make. “Let him that has not sinned be the first one to cast a stone”. Everyone will have their day in court.

Sam Bakthiar @ 8:09 pm

Hey Ted,

Great to hear from you. You are truely a pioneer and a legendary trainer of our city. Thank you for posting on my blog. Hope all is well with the family.

John @ 8:45 pm

Sam,

You took the words right out of my mouth! I absolutely agree with you regarding how Jay is selling out his brother for money. I’m still pissed on how he uses GOD’s name to justify his actions!

Good job with this blog man! I loved it!

Lance Uhles @ 4:34 pm

I agree with you. I am so sick and tired of the hipocracy. I am a Christian and I love Jesus. I do not however go bible thumping. I have seen so many people use god as a tool. I had an elderly, and helpless patient the other day that had family that would leave her alone, so that they could go to church. I was thinking, what the hell is wrong with you. Why dont you stay with your Mom and read the bible. Or, pray with you family. At least get someone to watch her. It is just one example. I have seen alot of Real Estate folks use god also. Stating that they are Christians and that the loan they are selling you is one of good faith. While it is a big scam. These hiporcrits are going strait to HELL in my opinion. But, then again, who am I to judge. Take care.

No matter what you should always back youre family up. Youre family is the rock to a great foundation. Jay that wasnt kool, youre not god to have made a decision to throw youre brother under the bus. All of sudden you want to be great with god, did you forget all the people from chinohills that you burned, by taking there money, not training them. You should check yourself, before you want to check other people. Now thats gods way, not your way.

Jan Nelson @ 2:21 pm

Sam,
Everyone needs to be very careful and steer clear of Jay McGuire.
It is common knowledge in our community of Chino Hills that Jay abused his position as a gym owner.
Anyone unfortunate enough to utilize his gym was subjected to cruel, inhumane workouts that caused vomiting and hospitalization. One young boy was taken to the emergency room and almost died.
He makes everyone in the fitness industry look bad. When we threatened to expose his actions to the media, he closed his doors and left town.
Hopefully, he has not set up shop elsewhere to cause more physical and emotional abuse to any other unsuspecting clients.
Everyone reading this – Keep your eyes peeled in your community for fear he will pop up there and do it to more people. What a scumbag.

Jan Nelson @ 2:33 pm

Carole,

You and I have never met, but THANK YOU!
FINALLY – somebody who gets it!
Girl, you are right on target about hypocrite Obama.
What a profound insult and slap in the face to all people – Christians or not – who watch his pious act while allowing partially born babies to lie in a room and literally starve to death.
As you probably know, Planned Parenthood is a HUGE contributor to his political campaigns. In fact, PP has so much power they actually shut down the federal government for days so the legislators wouldn’t pass a law banning partial birth abortions. As they say, “Money is the root of all evil.”
And if any woman reading this feels that our comments are anti-feminist:
You wouldn’t say that if you talked to hundreds of women over the years who are suffering from Post-Abortion Syndrome, similar to post-war PTSD:
nightmares, traumatic flashbacks, abusive relationships… from abortions that occurred as recently as 6 weeks ago….. and as long as 60 years ago!
Abortion doesn’t liberate women; it only enslaves them.
